Fall on Vancouver Island
The crisp aromatic air and cool salty seas make it the perfect time to get out and explore Vancouver Island. You can unwind in the intimate comforts of your suite while enjoying a warm beverage as you sit by the fire. Or, you can take a drive to check out these great local activities.
Try Surfing at Jordan River
Located just North of Sooke, Jordan River has a fairly exposed reef and point break that has reasonably consistent surf. Pacific storms kick up the surf and draw enthusiasts during the short, sometimes fierce days of winter. And if the waves are judged to be imperfect here, the tribe moves further west to Sombrio Beach in the heart of the Juan de Fuca Provincial Park
Marvel In The Beauty Of The Butchart Gardens
While many think of visiting Butchart Gardens as a summer affair, the temperate climate of Vancouver Island allows visitors to enjoy the gardens year-round. Enjoy the solitude winter brings, and take in the subtle beauty of over 55 acres of shrubs, trees and flowers. Or stop in during the month-long Magic of Christmas lights display and indulge in some holiday festivities.
Get Out On The Links
Whether it is the feeling that rings through your hands when you’ve struck the perfect shot, or the intrinsic beauty of a well-manicured golf course at dawn, there is truly something captivating about the game of golf. Near Sooke, golf enthusiasts can find a pleasant mix of championship style courses around the Sooke area. Located just outside of Victoria, Bear Mountain Golf Course offers a premier golf experience with two distinct golf courses – the Mountain or Valley Courses. Or enjoy a round at Olympic View Golf Course, which was recently rated ’Top 10 Best Public Golf Facility’ by ScoreGolf Magazine.
Go Storm Watching
During the Fall and Winter months, powerful storms barrel across the Pacific Ocean, making the communities on the West Coast of Vancouver Island the perfect place to storm watch. Located just up the highway, are a number of provincial and regional parks which provide an easy walk to pounding surf and driftwood strewn beaches such as French Beach, China Beach, Juan de Fuca and Sombrio Beach which offer many opportunities to view the ocean writhe back and forth as waves hurtle toward the shore.
